On Tuesday, we took on Leigh Academy Rainham in Basketball. We had a great game last week and were hoping to build on that success moving into this game to get the win.
There were two debuts for our Year 9s this week, with J'Vonte and Taylor getting their first experience in a Year 9/10 team. Both performed very well.
The first quarter was tight, and both teams were pretty much equal throughout. LAR scored first but by the end of the quarter we found ourselves 2 points in front. Our passing needed to improve, but the rest of the game was looking pretty solid.
During the second quarter, we saw an insane layup by our Captain which was met with a round of applause. But it also saw another tight quarter and some great play from LAR to keep themselves in the game. By the end of this quarter, we found ourselves 4 points up.
In the third quarter, we turned it on and despite it being end-to-end, LAR were lacking with the tracking back and we used that to our advantage to ensure we remained in front. Some great tackles and blocks by Sam helped us through this. We finished this quarter 6 points up.
The game was now ours. All we had to do was stay in front and I was kind of hoping they would finish 8 up - just so each quarter went 2,4,6,8 🙂. But it didn't. However, we continued to punish mistakes and made sure we broke fast and early. The tactical play was brilliant in places to run the clock down by slowing the game and ensuring we sealed the victory we so thoroughly deserved. Final score: WUTC 63 LAR 49!
Some very sweaty players after the game showed the hard work and effort they put into this. We have training on Wednesday, and then we face Hundred of Hoo on Monday. Let's keep this going!
