Wednesday saw WUTC travel to Brompton for a double header. The first game being a league match and the second a game cup match. A bit of a shaky start again with only 9 players being available on the day but a quick rally call and we found ourselves at 14 players. A big thank you to those that stepped in to help us, so we didn't have to give the game away.
The first match was pretty even with both teams showing some good football and for WUTC a huge improvement from our game on Monday. Aidan managed to beat the offside trap and roll the ball into the net for our first goal which was a huge boost to our confidence and performance. Charlie then broke into the box twisting and turning before being brought down... PENALTY... Chance to make it 2-0...SAVE! Brompton keeper pulled off a save still 1-0 to WUTC and time was ticking down. Brompton then got a free-kick just inside our half the player hits a long ball towards goal James jumps to catch the ball gets his hands on it but it slips free and bounces into the back of the net...disaster 1-1! Both teams then continued to push for that winning goal but neither side could find it. Game 1 ended 1-1.
The second match was a very different affair with WUTC now producing some great football and some lovely defending especially from Daniel and Adrian who kept the wingers in their pockets all game. WUTC had chance, after chance, after chance, after chance (I could continue writing those two words as we had so many) BUT we simply could not get the ball over the line. An absolutely solid performance with great football, great effort but no end product. Match finished 0-0 but this was the cup game so straight to penalties. Last year we dominated our penalties but this year it was to be on the other end of domination and sadly we lost the shootout. A deflated side sat on the edge of the pitch after, and no words could perk up such an irritating loss after having so many chances to finish the game off. On a different day it could have easily finished 4+ nil to us - clearly with the other actions in the games the 'Football Gods' were not favoring us today.
Man of the match this week goes to: Adrian who put in a superb performance at right/left back.
We may be out of the cup boys, but we still have league games to play, and we are currently unbeaten in the league. So lets win our last two games and hopefully that will be enough to take the title.
Good Luck to our year 9's on Thursday who kickoff their league campaign.
