"Term 4 means football season is back, and this week we travelled to Thomas Aveling.
After last week's loss to Thomas Aveling in the basketball final, I was desperate for us to win. It was a big game for both schools; if we won, then we still had a chance of finishing top. If they won, it meant they would have the league title.
The boys were ready, psyched and in great spirits. The game started strong from WUTC who were working as a unit and cutting out all advances by Thomas Aveling. Each time we shut them down, we hit them with a counterattack. It was end-to-end stuff. From one of our counters, we got a corner. Alex whipped the corner in, and we all got to watch it slowly curl into the top corner. 1 - 0 to WUTC! We were all buzzing!
We continued to block out Thomas Aveling, but a slight slip in our discipline found us out of position and Thomas Aveling punished us for this. 1 - 1. The half-time whistle blows.
At half-time, we were still in high hopes and ready. The focus was clear from the team, and they were going out ready to fight for this. In the 2nd half, Thomas Aveling were more in control. We continued to block them out, but lacked creating the chances ourselves at the other end. Soon we cracked and Thomas Aveling scored another goal: 2 - 1. Our heads dropped, and we found it hard to recover. Thomas Aveling used this to their advantage and scored a third goal with some wonderful play, carving open our defence. We tried to push but sadly were overwhelmed, and to add salt to our wound, an unlucky penalty was awarded for handball. James managed to save the penalty, but it was quickly followed up by Thomas Aveling. Final score: 4-1.
A tough game in the end and difficult for me to see Thomas Aveling last week win the playoff and this week win the league. They really have become our curse, but congratulations to them. Alex D was voted our man of the match for his performance.
We have one game left to determine where we finish in the league, and I hope we end our campaign with a win. A reminder: our Year 9 boys still have 5 games, so please see Mr Fielding, and our Year 9/10 girls still have about 8 games. Please see Mr Webb."
