At Waterfront UTC we mirror the working world in every possible way, and this includes what we wear. All students and staff wear business-like attire. Our students say this is a change from their previous school and makes a big difference to their mindset being in a professional environment.   

Business Dress


  • Dark suit
  • Shirt, worn with collar buttoned up
  • Tie
  • Black or brown leather shoes (not trainers/sport shoes)


  • Dark suit (skirt or trousers with jacket) - skirts must be at least knee length and NOT denim or leather
  • Blouse or smart top (no strappy or strapless tops)
  • Black or brown leather, low-heeled shoes (not sandals, trainers of sport shoes)

**No coats, hats, scarves etc are to be worn in the school building.

For Health & Safety reasons (boys & girls):

  • Long hair must be tied back during practical sessions
  • Jewellery should consist of stud earrings only. Bangles and rings are to be avoided.
  • Make-up, if worn, should be subtle. No false nails please.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

The school will provide the majority of PPE such as lab coats, high visibility jackets, safety glasses and hard hats but, for hygiene reasons, we ask that every student has their own pair of safety shoes/boots.

PE Kit:

Students MUST wear appropriate and comfortable leisure wear: tracksuits, shorts, t-shirts etc and trainers.

Waterfront UTC polo tops can be purchased direct from the UTC for PE. (optional)
