Admissions Information

Waterfront UTC is proposing some changes to the current admission policy starting from September 2020.  Please see our proposed admissions criteria policy here: Admissions Policy 2020.

  • Waterfront UTC will recruit Year 7 and Year 9 pupils for entry in September 2020 from the three zones identified in Appendix 1.

The consultation is taking place for a period of seven weeks between Friday 16th November 2018 and Friday 18th January 2019.

Waterfront UTC welcomes any comments regarding these proposed admission arrangements and would ask you to please write or email comments to Miss J Legge on the following email address: j.legge@waterfront-that.org.uk or by letter (Waterfront UTC, South Side Three Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4FQ) by Friday 18th January 2019. Please head your response ‘Admissions Consultation’.

As from September 2019, Waterfront UTC will admit students from Year 9 through to Year 13 (following a public consultation in January 2018).

Waterfront UTC is committed to a straightforward, open, fair and transparent admissions arrangement. The school acts fully in accordance with the School Admissions Code (as revised February 2012), the School Admissions Appeals Code and admissions law as they apply to academies.

These admissions arrangements support the wider ethos of Medway, as a hub of innovation and Waterfront UTC aspires to be the 14-19 establishment of choice for both pupils and employers across the region.

In developing our admissions policy, we have looked to strike a balance between admitting Medway students as well as students from other districts whilst minimising the impact on any individual school. We have also ensured that no individual will be advantaged in gaining admission to the UTC by virtue of where they live.

Casual Admissions

All applications for admissions for pupils in Years 10 – 13 received after 1 September should be made directly to the school. The UTC will then consider all such applications and if the year group applied for has a place available, admit the child unless one of the permitted reliefs apply. Should a student be considered to be hard to place under Medway’s Fair Access Protocols, the admission request will be referred to Medway to be considered by the Fair Access panel, rather than follow the normal admissions process. Please contact our Admissions Officer if you would like to apply for a place on office@waterfront-that.org.uk . If there are no places available in the year group then the application will go on our waiting list.
